Another Bump in the Road

Good Morning! I must apolgize to my faithful followers for being absent from blogging for so long but I do have a reason, and I'm afraid it's another bump in the road to good health. I've been struggling with shoulder pain for over a year now, trying to avoid shoulder surgery with physical therapy and joining a gym, but I believe that the time has come to consider whatever surgery is necessary to get past the pain that keeps me awake most nights. So, with great sadness, I have to step down from the Doodle Pantry Design Team as it would not be fair to Laurie Wilson to ask for such an extended absence. I'm not sure what surgery I might have, as I have my first appointment with a shoulder specialist early next week. I will share what's going on as soon as all tests, Xrays and MRI's have been read and I've been given treatment options...I hope that you'll check back periodically as I intend to jump back into cardmaking as soon as physically possible. In the meantime, I would so appreciate your prayers for healing. Thank you!!!

Good Morning! I have a new Doodle Pantry image to share with you called "Cattail Pond", beautifully illustrated by Laurie Wilson and so versatile for so many sentiments and occasions. This card is also being entered into the "Stampin' Sisters in Christ Challenge #76", based on Exodus 8:9-11and the challenge is to use the color green on your project...I've got plenty of that here! LOL For this card, I wanted the image to be the focal point and decided to keep the card minimal in embellishment to not distract from Laurie's beautiful image. I find that coloring water with Copic Sketch Markers are always a challenge, but with the handy Colorless Blender (0) it is easy to create ripples in the water giving it a more realistic look. A New Year, A New Card

A Little Under the Weather

Good Morning! I just want to share with my faithful followers (I love you so much!) that I'm taking a very short break due to medical issues. It is nothing life-threatening but it is a pressing matter that needs immediate attention, so I have to take a short break for a few days...I'm not sure how many days but less than 2 weeks, I'm thinking. I hope that you won't lose interest in visiting me here because of this, but I understand if you do, since I took a 2 week break during the Christmas holidays and now this...but I do hope that you'll keep me in mind in 2 weeks...Prayers always welcomed! Our 21st Anniversary Getaway!

Hello! I thought that I'd blog "off-topic" today, as my husband, Tom, treated me to a 21st Anniversary Getaway trip to Cambridge, Maryland, which is located on the Eastern Shore of the Chesapeake Bay. This area was one that I was not familiar with and had never taken the opportunity to explore before, but I was amazed at the beautiful landscape that abounds along this coastline that forks out into multiple waterways, creeks and rivers. For our special getaway, we booked a room at the Lodgecliffe at Choptank Bed & Breakfast, which was built in 1898 and was such a lovely home, not to mention the breathtaking sunset views from the Cliffelodge rear deck and backyard:

Above, is the expansive back deck where there is deck lounge chairs and umbrella tables during the warmer months and to the right of the deck is the screened-in porch where breakfast is served during the warmer months, as well. Both afford the Lodgecliff guest fantastic views of the Choptank River.

Above, are two views of the backyard of the Lodgecliff Bed & Breakfast, where guests and sit and relax and just breathe in God's handpainted sunsets!

Above is the beautifully decorated living room/parlor of the Lodgecliff, where we were greeted by our friendly inkeepers, Autumn & Katherine, with hot coffee and freshly baked muffins! I just love the blue and yellow decor in this room....so happy and sunny!

Above, is the sunny and beautifully decorated dining room where we had a delicious breakfast of juice, coffee, grilled fresh fruit, fresh homemade muffins and a puffed pastry with blueberry syrup. A beautiful blue tapestry rung and yellow walls made for a very pleasant breakfast experience.

The Lodgecliff had a wonderful addition to their Bed & Breakfast in their bright & comfy sunroom which faced the inn's rear double doors, which lead out to the deck and backyard and where you can read, sip tea and enjoy the beautiful views on the water...it was WONDERFUL! My fav place in the whole inn! If you're in the Cambridge, Maryland/Eastern Shore area, you must visit Lodgecliff at Choptank.

Good Morning! Hard to believe that Christmas is only 47 days away! I love Christmastime and celebrating the Savior's birth and I especially enjoyed coloring this new Doodle Pantry Digi Image by Laurie Wilson, called "French Horn" which just speaks, "Hallelujah!" and I say indeed, we have a Savior who lives.

I used the Basic Grey new "Jovial" Christmas Designer Paper on this card and it really synced well with the illustration and the flavor that I had in mind when making this card. Sew Bad...Let's Just Call It Whimsical!!

Good Morning! As promised I have the second sheep in the Doodle Pantry "Holiday Sheep" to show you today. This card proved to be quite challenging when I used too many layers of Paper Trey Ink White Cardstock, which became problematic with respect to machine stitching. Now, don't misunderstand...I absolutely love, love, love Paper Trey Ink White Cardstock, especially for the card base...but in this case, layering it led to some wonky machine stitching. If you look close enough, you'll see where I ran off the edge of the paper at the bottom front and the top interior of the card. This was partly user error as well as my sewing machine telling me that it just wasn't happy. So, the sewing is bad, but let's just call it "Whimsical Stitching"...how's that?? Hopefully, it doesn't distract from Laurie Wilson's adorable sheep illustration, which can be downloaded at Doodle Pantry. I hope that you can see the "snowflakes" that I created in the sky using Stickles clear glitter glue, as well as the "snow" on the ground. (Zoom in for a closer look!)

Good Morning! I have some fabulous roses to share with you and who doesn't love pretty flowers during the "Dog Days" of August? This card was made using one of Doodle Pantry's newest Digi Images, called "Mini Rose Pot" and the great thing about this image is the variety of colors that you can color the roses. I decided to use this pretty October Afternoon paper with the floral background and after I colored the image, I got to thinking, "this looks way too flower busy"...but then as I added more layers and borders and such, I decided to run with it...after all, it's all about creativity, right? A Passage in Time...

Good Morning and Happy 20th Birthday to my son, Christopher! Time has a way of moving us through different passages in our lives and it seems like just yesterday when Christopher was 4 years old and looked like the photo above on the left...just last summer he is sailing off the Outer Banks and looking like a grown man. I can't help but wonder where have all the years gone? ... It blows my mind!!! Yes, Christopher is beginning a new passage in life...

Believe it or not, I've never made him a birthday card or any card for that matter as I thought that he thought that my cards were "silly" or "dumb"... Then just a week or so ago, Christopher mentioned that he would like a handmade card for his birthday...He said, "well, you ARE a cardmaker, Mom!" My heart was alight with delight! I was thrilled to make him something that he would hold dear and remember...(well, I can hope anyway, that's how it'll work out - tee, hee!). So here's my birthday tribute to my dear son who is very much loved by his father and me.

I worked on Christopher's card for 4 nights! I took extra time to color his image "just right" and then it took me 2 more nights to figure out how to layout the card, what embellishments to use, etc. Anyway, I'm thinking that he just might like it! Here's a peek at the interior and the sentiment that I wrote:

A Scarecrow, A Bird & A Splinted Finger

Good Morning! I'm a little late in posting a new card, as I have an "issue" with my middle finger. Apparently, I've torn a ligament and the finger will be in a splint for 3 weeks. YIKES! That's forever for a cardmaker!!! Anyhoo...I am allowed to take the splint off for very brief periods such as showering and that means, cardmaking, too...yeah right! Like I've ever made a card in a brief period! LOL Most of my cards take me 2-3 days by the time all is said and done. But I'll do what the good doctor says and splint my finger 95% of the time.

This card features a new Doodle Pantry Digi Image, called "Scarecrow Birdie" to be released on August 5th and is my Clearly Delightful Monthly Challenge card submission. This month's challenge, "Tag You're It!" is to use a tag anywhere on your card, and I used the Nestabilities Tags Trio Die for the sentiment. Good Morning! As promised, I have another Doodle Pantry Digi Image to share with you today...this one is one of Laurie Wilson's earlier illustrations and is called "Branch Birds". Aren't they the cutest things??? And I had a ball coloring those little guys to match this fun October Afternoon designer paper that I've been saving for just the right image. The Card That Almost Wasn't!

Good Morning! Today I have another new Doodle Pantry Digi Image that will be released TOMORROW, July 20th that is yet another "Ants" image in the Doodle Pantry line. As I've mentioned before, I am addicted to Laurie Wilson's Doodle Pantry "Ants" because they are so whimsical...and who doesn't love whimsy???

I guess that you're wondering why this card almost wasn't...well, it started when I had to recolor the digi image because I had dropped one of my darker Copics by accident onto the image area and no amount of Copic Colorless Blender made any difference as far as lifting the color off the image. So, I recolored the image the following night and that went well. Then I had my layout figured and trimmed all my layers and borders and had them ready for sewing. The sewing went without issue then when I sat down to glue the top panel and the interior panel onto my white card base...I realized that the interior panel fit the card base but the front panel measured 4" x 5.5" and had ⅛" of the white card base showing on the each side of the card. So I thought, "What to do, what to do?" So I decided to trim off the outside layer of the interior panel to match the width of the front panel, when I ended up slicing through the 2nd layer of the interior panel with my Xacto knife into the sewing area. GRRRRR!!! I knew then that I had to remake the interior panel to fit 4" x 5.5" area of the card base....so all that went well until I almost ran out of the red designer paper that used to make the loopy borders and so I had to dig in my trash can to search for scraps large enough to make new loopy borders for the new interior panel...it just went on and on. Finally...2 days after I started this card, it was finally finished!!! I just wanted to share with my faithful followers that I DO occasionally have card problems like that as I'm sure others have had. Whew! I'm glad that that card is done, though...I'm tellin' you!!!

Good Morning! I apologize that it has been so long since I have posted, but I've been working on 2 cards that feature new Doodle Pantry Digi Images that will release on Tuesday, July 20th, as well as several other Digi Images. The first image that I have to share with you today, is called "Italian Street Scene" and it has so many possiblities as far as how to color the beautifully illustrated Italian villas by Laurie Wilson. I picked up a new pad of paper by DCWV called "Linen Closet" and I just love the soft, subtle colors and tones in this collection. I knew this glittery (although the photos don't pick up on the glitter) floral paper would be perfect for this Italian scene. Remember, you can right-click on any photo to see a larger view.

Oh, on a side niote, "La Vita e Bella" means "Life is Beautiful! and if you haven't seen the movie, Life is Beautiful...you must put it on your "to see" list! It is wonderful!! Below, is a photo of the card interior, where I used coordinated papers and design.

A New Beginning...

Good Morning! I have a special card to share with you today..I made it for a "Dork Sister" who I met over on Splitcoast Stampers, who is getting married. Vikki Jo Erickson will be marrying her long-time boyfriend, Clint and I wanted to make them a wedding card that featured a flower, as Vikki Jo loves to garden and be outside. Now Pasque Flowers are different shades of purple and when I colored the image, it really was more purple, but after a little photo editing, I managed to mess that up! We have a sizeable parade and then fireworks over the water down by the park by the bay and it draws more than a thousand to our little quaint town. Good Morning and Happy Father's Day! I am blessed to still have my 84-year-old father still living, and he's a wonderful and godly father. So, I wanted to make him a serene, but "happy place" card. Two of his favorite colors are green and burgundy, so these papers worked quite well for the color scheme for coloring. I used a cute digi image called, "Birds Go By" available at Phindy's Place. The kitty at the end of the pier was quite hard to color because he was so small, but I was determined to color him like my own tortoise-shell calico kitty, "Peanut". ODBD Customer Favorites "Scripture Series 1"

Good Morning! I have something special to share with you today...if you're not familiar with Our Daily Bread Designs (ODBD), then you must visit their store and blog. ODBD is known for their Christian sentiments and beautiful artwork and they recently held a "Scripture Contest" whereby 6 winners were chosen and the winners in turn, received a free Customer Favorites "Scripture Series Stamp Set", as well as the pretty "Vine Border" set. And, I was one of the blessed winners! I was so excited, I just can't express how much!! The verse that I submitted was Psalm 34:4 and Kelley from ODBD asked that we winners all make a sample card using our chosen scripture...so this is it. Good Morning! Today I have a fun digital image to share...it's called "Gummy Worms" illustrated by Laurie Wilson of Doodle Pantry. I thought that it would make a fun birthday card and I'm always needing birthday cards, non-stop! This year, I just started to finish the interior of my cards and now I'm addicted. A Little Announcement

Good Morning! I have a little announcement, one that is hard to share but I must...I have made the difficult decision to leave the design team for Clear Dollar Stamps after a few years of serving this incredible stamp company. I have thoroughly enjoyed serving on the team and helping Lori McCroskey build her stamp company and promote her wonderful products, but it was time for a "change" to do some other things and with summer coming, I wanted more "free time" to do the other things that I love so much, like flower gardening and catching up on my reading.

I will continue to serve Laurie Wilson on her Doodle Pantry Design Team to help promote and grow her digi stamp line and with all this extra time on my hands, I should be able to create some cards that are just for me and whatever needs life brings. Thank you for visiting me and viewing my card creations while serving Clear Dollar Stamps...but I hope that you continue to visit me now that we're old friends! : )

Good Morning! It's that fun and exciting time when we get to share with you all the fabulous new stamp sets that Clear Dollar Stamps will be releasing on May 1st! A Little Announcement

Good Morning! I'm sorry that I've been lax in sharing more card creations, as I had promised, but I've been happily busy with preparing Clear Dollar Stamps' May Sneak Peeks and will have those to share with you starting on Wednesday, April 28th. There are some really nice stamps sets coming out in May, and it won't be hard to find one that you just have to have! Starting in May & June, I will be taking a 2-month hiatus, to make room for the Clear Dollar Stamps' Summer Crew -- Clearly Crafty Team: Rebecca Ednie, Sarah Gilreath, Sita Mahadeo, Tracy Johnson and Vicki Dutcher. Be sure to visit their blogs as they will be sharing their wonderful card creations and projects over the summer, giving us Clear Dollar Stamps' year-round team a little vacation to rest and renew for some new creativity, when we return at Summer's end.

And...I have some exciting news to share! I will be serving on Laurie Wilson's "Doodle Pantry" digital doodles design team starting in May! C'est magnifique!, is right! "Fashionably French" will put you in a mood to stamp romantically!! I loved this pretty perfume/atomizer bottle and envisioned making it look like the old green Depression Glass (anyone remember that?), so out came the Copics and I don't know if I pulled it off, but I've got a green perfume/atomizer bottle on my card, just the same! This card was made using Clear Dollar Stamps' "Blooming with Blessings", as well, but using the daisies and stems provided in the set. The set also contains some variated butterflies, some outlined with verbage some stylized...all very pretty additions to "Blooming with Blessings". If you're always looking for the perfect sentiment or traditional sentiment and none of your stamp sets suit your need, then "Heartfelt Sentiments" is a must-have set! This set is jam-packed with traditional as well as non-traditional sentiments and you'll find yourself reaching for this set over and over again...I know I will. This set also has a few cute little illustrated stamps as well, such as the little bird used on the card above. To create this "Happy Anniversary" card, I stamped the little bird twice. Some Bunny...

For this second card using "Circle Chit Chat" I envisioned a bunny jumping over several hills and vales, so I hand cut the 3 hills and sponged heavily the edges to bring some definition to the hills. The clouds in the sky were sponged using a homemade cloud template. Love is in the air! Wink, wink! I hope that you are planning a wonderful Valentine's Day or have one planned by your significant other. I was upstairs in my stamping nook all day, trying to make some headway through my March CDS Sneak Peeks, and I did finish one, but then I wanted to make a card for the love of my life, my darling husband, Tom. And wouldn't you know...he never comes up to my stamp nook when I'm stamping, but tonight...he came up 3 times! Do you think he knows??? ; ) Anyway, I have never made him a card and thought that I'd surprise him, and besides with 44" of snow on the ground, it was hard to get out and about to do any card or present shopping. History Breaking Snow in Maryland!

Hello from blizzard-stricken northern Maryland! It has been unbelievable here as we have survived two back-to-back snowstorms that brought 24" inches from Storm #1 and 3 days later, 20" more inches! Maryland does not usually see that kind of snow, but rather 5-6" snowstorms, so, as you can imagine, this has immobilized most people and kept them prisoner at home. Two days later, we are still digging out and some people are still waiting for their streets to be plowed. And as if that wasn't bad enough, there is a more snow in the forecast for Monday! Did anyone say Key West??

I had hoped to have a card to share, but I have come down with a bad head cold and have not felt well enough to create one. I have been busy trying to complete all of my March CDS sneak peeks, but hopefully by the weekend, I may have a special Valentine's Day Card that I want to make for my guy.

Good Morning! This is the last day of Clear Dollar Stamps Sneak Peeks and I have a really great sentiment stamp set to share with you today. "Cute Quips", containing many cute sentiments will be releasing on February 1st and is so handy with so many other CDS stamps, as you see here. The mice, Marcy and Marvin, as well as the cheese slice, is from Clear Dollar Stamps and when I saw the sentiment, "Have a Mice Day", I just knew the mice and cheese were perfect for it. This card layout concept evolved from my finding the EK Success Swiss Cheese Border Punch on a recent Michael's trip! That sort of set the stage for an orange theme, so when I saw another great Martha Stewart designer paper pad, called "Playful Blues", I thought that it would be a great fit with the orange to create this whimsical flavor. Although, I have to say that after looking at the Swiss Cheese "holes", the dotted Martha Stewart designer background paper, and the paper piercing holes, not to mention the Pebbles polka dotted ribbon...I was thinking I'm about circle and dotted out! A Little Birdie Told Me

Another card that I created using the Clear Dollar Stamps "Cute Quips", which is a great sentiment set and sure to prove versatile. This card was created from inspiration that I found in the Basic Grey Sugar Rush Pad...I just loved this lilac floral print and I drew colors from it to contrast and compliment, using Paper Trey's Blush Cardstock and Martha Stewart's Essentials Paper Pad for the solid green and lilac cardstock. The little birdhouse is another single stamp from CDS which coordinated beautifully with this Cute Quip, "A Little Birdie Told Me"...After gluing my card together and photographing it, I realized that I should've drawn a post or a wire from the top of, or the bottom of the birdhouse, because it is sort of suspended in the air. All-in-all though, the birdhouse is a supercute little single stamp and coordinates beautifully with "Cute Quips". Good Morning! Today, I'm sharing a card that is featuring a brand new single stamp AND! a stamp set from Clear Dollar Stamps -- both of these will be released on February 1st. The sentiment on this card is called "Praise God..." and is a single stamp that just resonates reasons I see to praise the Lord, and the florals on the card are from a stamp set called, "Bitty Botanicals". This set has several silhouetted clusters of flowers that are so versatile for any cardmaking occasion! Laurie Wilson, illustrated "Bitty Botanicals" and did a beautiful job and I promise that you will not be disappointed in this set and it will become one of your favorites to reach for, month after month. The whole color scheme for this card is from 2 coordinating papers from the K&Co. "Que Sera, Que Sera" designer paper pad, which I've had for months, but had yet to use. I thought that the pretty coral, yellow and pink color combo was just perfect to compliment the "Bitty Botanicals" along with the individual stamp, "Praise God...", which is also available through Clear Dollar Stamps. Are You Ready for CDS Sneak Peek Week?

Good Morning and what an exciting and busy morning it is at Clear Dollar Stamps! Today, marks my internet return to CDS after a 3-month medical hiatus, although I've been stamping for a whole month prior, making February Sneak Peeks. So, I'm excited to be back designing along with the CDS Design Team! Clear Dollar Stamps has many, many new stamp sets as well as individual stamps releasing February 1st, so, if you visit the other CDS design team member's blogs, which are listed on the right sidebar, you will see many other stamps being previewed this week.

The first stamp set that I'm sharing today is called "Circle Somethings" and you talk about a fun and supercute set! The set contains half-circles and circles that have various geometric designs that you can stamp with, making different animals, plant life and such. It really is a lot of fun to stamp with and the combinations are endless, which will ignite your mojo!

I created this card, based on my inspiration from this designer paper (I often create my card designs based on designer paper inspiration). I was in Michael's looking to see what new and fresh paper was available, and ran across their "Recollections" line. The green argyle and orange spotted dots papers, really lent itself to this turtle card design. So, as soon as I got home with the paper, I got started on putting the whole thing together and I've got to tell you a story about the Martha Stewart Loopy Punch. Months ago, when everyone and their brother were making fabulous cards with the Martha Stewart Loopy Punch, and I couldn't find one anywhere, I had emailed my CDS designer team members asking them if they would pick up one for me if they saw one at a store near them...each one emailed back, saying how sorry they were that they couldn't find one. So, I was discouraged, thinking that I'd never find a Martha Stewart Loopy Punch, but that day that I was in Michaels...there it was! And on sale, yet! That just goes to prove that good things come to those who wait! Featured, below is another sample using CDS's "Circle Somethings".

Something to Celebrate

Here's the second card that I made from the CDS "Circle Somethings" stamp set. This set is so whimsical and again, it has so many possibilities...I just had to ink up the half circles to make this little mouse. I wanted to use the "Celebrate" sentiment from the "Circle Somethings" set and so the whole card concept evolved from "Celebrate. I found this delicious designer paper pad from Martha Stewart at Walmart, and loved the pink, greens and lavendars (can you tell I'm so ready for Spring?), so the layout concept came after I decided to stamp 3 vertical mice, making the third one the "Birthday Mouse". I just cut out a piece of lavendar coordinating polka dotted designer paper from the Martha Stewart pad and outlined the edge with a black marker, drawing a little pompom on top and then glued it to the bottom mouse's head. Sing to the Lord...

I have one last stamp to share with you today and it is such an uplifting stamp to use and to share. "Sing to the Lord..." is a single stamp from Clear Dollar Stamps, also to be released on February 1st. This card's layout and design sort of evolved as I went along. I didn't have a real plan when I started out making this one, but I knew that I wanted to use the "Bitty Botanicals" again from CDS and incorporate this Basic Grey designer paper that had multiple hearts within it's design. So, I pulled from the lavendar, red and green colors. I also used the Nestabilities Ribbon Tag Trio Die for the first time, although it had been sitting in my stash for several months...I wanted to use it to frame the flowers from "Bitty Botanicals"...so I cut an additional oval, stamped the flowers on that, then popped that on top of the Nestabilities' Ribbon Tag Die, coloring each dot that is embossed all around the oval, in red, to further carry out the red contrast. The hearts are made from a small older punch and a Cuttlebug heart die. "Sing to the Lord...", a single, sentiment stamp will be useful and very versatile to your stamp collection. A Clean, Simple & Quick One!

Good Morning! Today I'm sharing a clean, simple and quick card that I needed to make for my sister-in-law, Nikki. I also wanted to ink up my Paper Trey Ink stamp set "Everyday Button Bits" that has never seen ink before, so this was the perfect occasion. It was so much fun to play with and selecting which buttons to use for each balloon was fun, but challenging...LOL!

The papers are all (except one, from Paper Trey Ink Lemon Tart Cardstock) from a paper pad made by Martha Stewart called "Playful Blue Paper Pad"...all the papers were beautifully coordinated and complimenting, and you talk about easy when that happens! I'm lovin' that and need to see what Martha Stewart offers in that line. Okay, here's the deets!

I've Discovered Digi "Stamps"!!!!

Happy Friday evening! My favorite time to stamp and RELAX! I'm a late bloomer to everything in general, and so it seems, again to Digi "Stamping". I've seen so many beautiful digi images that I caved in and experimented! (Still believing that this is not really stamping, but more pseudo-stamping! LOL)

Then I found Mo's Digital Pencil Challenge and store! Woot! Woot! I'm loving the whimsy of her images! She is such a gifted illustrator and I look forward to her future illustrations with lust! LOL

Snowbirds Welcome!

Good morning! As promised, I have another card that I created this weekend to show you. I can't believe that I made 2 cards in one weekend after that long card-drought! I was beginning to think that my mojo was gone forever! Instead, I am rejuvenated and on a roll! I pray that it lasts awhile.

Even though Christmas is over, we're getting lots and lots of snow here in Maryland, this winter. It is an abnormality in Maryland to get so much...it started the first weekend in December...and then we got 2 feet just in time for Christmas! That was really a once-in-a-blue-moon snow. So, with snow all around, I decided that we can still enjoy snowmen! Before I forget I want to thank my friend Joyce Casaldi, for the pretty transparent sparkly ribbon that she sent to me for my birthday last month...I have teamed it with the Michael's Pink Satin Ribbon on this card.

This snowman is called "Hamilton" from Whipper Snapper. I just loved the little bird standing on his head and the birdhouse hanging on his twig arm! The punched wavy, side border and the punched wavy, sentiment border was made using my new EK Success Dotted Wavy Border Punch. They are really coming out with some really neat border punches! Well hello faithful readers! I cannot believe that I have a card that I can show you NOW! LOL I've been working fervently on several Clear Dollar Stamps February Sneak Peeks, but I can't share those until the end of this month, so keep your eye out for those.

Hello faithful readers! I have let you down by not delivering what I promised in my last blog...a new little yellow cottage sketch and a card or two. I have been unusually busy between Thanksgiving and Christmas, which is why I've been lax in creating things...BUT! I will be resuming my design team duties for Clear Dollar Stamps, the week after Christmas!!

So! That means that I will be producing cards because I am committed and I am committed to finish coloring my little yellow cottage sketch and get that uploaded in January. I just wanted to update you on what's going on...I'm fine, Daddy's doing well, still some leg swelling but is coming along.

I want to thank every single precious reader that has come to see what I've been creating and especially those who continually prayed for me through total knee replacement surgery and for my father's leg surgery. It has been a very long fall and early winter, but I am looking with excitement toward resuming my design team duties for CDS, getting back into blogging and I'm taking a bible study on the book of Matthew. I am looking forward to 2010 and want to wish you all a Very Merry Christmas and Blessings in the New Year!

Time is Flying!

Hello faithful readers! I so appreciate you! I really do! I mean who else would keep coming back to read a blog that doesn't have postings but once every 2-3 weeks! You guys are the best and I am blessed to have you peeking in...

With that said, I wanted to update you with my life: Daddy was released from the rehabilitation center about a week and a half ago, and he has since decided to sell the family home and move into an apartment. And that is all going to happen Nov. 21st! Yep, for an 84-year-old guy, he's moving fast! He still has considerable swelling in his operated leg and was told by his surgeon that he may have that for a month and perhaps some swelling off and on for the rest of his years. He just has to use common sense after being on his feet awhile and elevate his leg as needed to rest it.

I have begun coloring my new illustration of my little yellow cottage for my blog and hope to have that up and running by Dec. 1st! I know that that sounds like forever, but it's really not...Thanksgiving is just around the corner.

Tom and I will be celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary on Nov. 16th and we are blessed enough to go away to Avon-by-the-Sea, NJ for two nights to stay at the Cashelmara Inn, a Victorian style seaside Bed & Breakfast. I've included a photo of the B&B from their website, above. We hope to breathe some fresh salty air, stroll on the non-commercial boardwalk, eat some marvelous food and enjoy a movie or two in the Cashelmara Inn's Victorian Theatre, complete with velvet chairs and free popcorn! I will have photos to share when we return, and the following weekend, Daddy's moving into his apartment...and then the following Wednesday, the Nov. 25th, Christopher will be home from college for Thanksgiving break! I really am shooting for stamping a card Thanksgiving weekend! So, please don't give up on me!

Update on My Father's Surgery

Hello! I wanted to give my followers an update on my father's leg aneurysm bypass surgery. Monday was a very long day as his surgery wasn't scheduled until 1:30 pm. His surgery lasted approximately 2 hours and then he was in recovery for about 90 minutes. The surgeon met with us and said that the surgery was a "success", however there is a huge danger of blood clots which would not bring about a good prognosis for the future of his leg. Since my father lost his other leg in 1978 and extra arteries were used from his "good leg" in hope of successful natural artery bypass on the lost leg, there were no available arteries left on his good leg to use for this surgery. So, an artificial artery was grafted in, and his aneurysm was clamped closed to prevent bursting and blood flow through the original artery. With leg aneurysm bypasses (called popliteal bypass), using a natural artery is more beneficial with a better prognosis. Since Daddy had an artificial artery bypass, he is not out of the woods for some time. But the medical staff has gotten him out of bed yesterday and today, he took several steps with the walker.

He will be released from the hospital tomorrow and then he is going to a rehabiliation center for awhile, so that he can gain his independence back. We don't know how long he will be in the rehabilitation center, as it depends on the "goals" that he and his doctor set. But we are hopeful that he will be in there, at most, a week. The blood clotting prevention is being done with a blood thinner Rx, compression stockings and he will need to keep moving his leg through exercise and/or regular use.

I want to thank everyone who has been faithfully praying for him, and my family. We so appreciate your heartfelt prayers and we ask that you continue to hold him in prayer until he is out of the woods. It humbles me to know that so many people whom I have never met has prayed and is continuing to pray. Thank you again!!

A Need for Prayer

Hi Everyone! I wanted to update my faithful blog readers with information regarding my father's leg anuerysm surgery. By the way, his name is Roy Unger and he saw his vascular surgeon this afternoon and has scheduled his leg bypass surgery next Monday, 10/19 at 1:30 pm. It looks like they will be using a synthetic artery to do the bypass surgery since no natural arteries are available (from being stripped from both legs for his 1978 bypass surgeries). I'm told that the synthetic artery bypass has improved much since then, however, it is more beneficial to have a natural artery to use for the bypass. My sister, Dianne, is flying up from Georgia on Sunday to help Daddy out when he comes home from the hospital and I'm so glad she's coming for emotional support, as well! Please keep her in prayer for travel mercies and please pray for Daddy's surgery on Monday: that his leg would not reject the artificial artery or that infection would not set in and that the surgery would be successful.

When it Rains...

Good Morning! I have no idea who may be reading this after the long absence of postings here lately, but should you be reading this, I have yet more disappointing news to share.

I had decided to return to the CDS design team in time to produce November sneak peeks, but there has been a family medical concern that is taking my focus away from anything else. My father who has been living independently (my mother passed away in 2000), as a leg amputee (he does wear a prosthesis and can walk), has developed an aneurysm behind the knee of his "good leg". It is rather large and will require surgery either with a stent or bypass surgery. My father has arteriosclerosis (hardening of the arteries) and lost his leg to an aneurysm in 1978, after several bypass attempts were made, that failed. So, you can imagine the fear that he has of losing this other leg should this new aneursym surgery should fail. That would render him a double amputee and would certainly change the dynamic of his independent living. Us children (my sister, my brother and myself), may be facing some decisions regarding our father's care should the surgery not succeed. So, because of this, I have decided that returning to CDS as a design team member is not in the best interest of CDS, as my focus is foremost on my father. We do not have a surgery date at this time, as he is still in the midst of more testing and needs to see a cardiologist for cardiac clearance, as well (he has had 3 heart attacks). My focus and my time will be directed toward my family and although I regret that I am not able to return to CDS at this time, I feel that it is the right decision.

That doesn't mean that I won't be posting card-related posts. I hope that at some point after my father's surgery, I'll be able to stamp and relax for therapy and I will share those creations when I do. On a positive note, I have some news to share...I have, for some time, not been happy with my blog photo of my little yellow cottage. So, I have asked my sister, Dianne Dashler, who is an artist, if she would "sketch" my little yellow cottage. She has just finished her final rendering and as soon as I receive it in the mail, I will be anxious to colorize it and hope to upload it to my blog in 2-3 weeks. It is a big difference in artwork and hope that you come back to see it.

Just an update

Good morning! It has been a month since I have posted and in one sense, time has flown, but medically and pain-wise, not so much!! I am doing well in my total knee recovery, and getting ready to celebrate my 6-week post-op next Tuesday, with being cut loose from physical therapy! My therapist has been the best therapist, and has rehabbed me three times: once for my first TKR, once for my frozen shoulder last Spring and now with this second TKR. I want to thank her, Karen Pirovolidis for all her continued encouragement and help as I struggled to make each moment count!

And, I also want to announce that I am resuming my duties as part of the Clear Dollar Stamps Design Team, beginning October 1st, which will generate November sneak peeks at the end of October. So, I hope that you will visit back here then, to see what I've come up with. In the meantime, I will be jumping back into the swing of stamping sometime soon, as I will just be making a few cards for my own personal use and I hope to have those to share with you within the next week or so. It has been a very long haul through this surgery and I want to thank everyone for all their kind thoughts and uplifted prayers. See you soon!

I'm Home From the Hospital

Good morning! Just an update on my total knee replacement surgery. I was discharged from the hospital last Friday, 8/14 and was so glad to come home to get some much-needed rest. Between the blood drawing, IV changing, medication dispensing, meals arriving, physical therapists coming to get me, etc...there was no sleep to be had more than a 2-hour stretch. But, the operation was successful, physical therapy in the hospital went very well and today, I had my first in-home physical therapy session. My physical therapist said that because I am doing so well so early on (my surgery being less than a week ago), that she will release me to out-patient physical therapy mid-week, next week. That means I can go to my favorite physical therapy place, Agape Therapy which is located within a health/fitness club. There, I will be able to use their exercise equipment as well as therapy pool to rehab the knee.

I'm spending alot of my days stalking other cardmaker's blogs, watching television, reading, napping, icing the knee, elevating the knee and doing my physical therapy exercises. I'm tired most of the time because of the pain meds, but I'm so glad that the worse is over.

I hope to get upstairs this weekend and see if I can sit for a spell at my craft table, at least to sort some buttons and ribbons that I've ordered from Paper Trey Ink...and who knows, maybe I'll start a card! How cool would that be! Thanks for staying in touch...

Time Off for Some Surgery

Hello! I wanted to share with my readers that I will be taking a "cardmaking hiatus" effective today and for a little while longer. For years, I have suffered from osteoarthritis in both knees, which has led to the need for total knee replacement surgery. I had my left knee replaced in September, 2007 and now my right knee will be replaced in a few days. I will be involved in intensive physical therapy 3 times a week, so that will leave very little energy to create cards. I have stepped down from my CDS Design Team duties for a few months, but plan to return as soon as I am able. I hope that this news does not disappoint my readers or turn them off from ever returning to visit my blog. Should you feel inclined to pray for my upcoming surgery, I would be most humbled, as I have a strong belief in the power of uplifted prayer.

Peeking into the Neighborhood

Good Morning! Today is Day #2 of Clear Dollar Stamps' Sneak Peek Week and today I'm sharing a really versatile stamp set called "Nice Neighborhood". This set includes 3 different style houses, trees, a moving truck and several themed sentiments. The set was illustrated by Laurie Wilson, our CDS Design Team Coordinator and if you like to color images...then you gotta get this set! For this particular sample, I wanted to keep it very clean and simple. Well, it didn't exactly turned out clean and simple, but for me, I think it's close! LOL I drew the colors from the beautiful Basic Grey Designer Paper Collection "Porcelain" and wanted the pretty floral background and stamped image to really compliment each other...so I colored the house quite simply to not distract from the background floral. I added a little Michael's self-adhesive silver bead for the door handle of the house! Isn't that cute? Another sneak peek sample using CDS' "Nice Neighborhood" was created all around the two-sided designer paper that I was dying to use and waiting for "just the right moment!" Since I used soft, feminine colors on my first sneak peek sample of "Nice Neighborhood", I wanted to use some warm and toasty colors on this sample. I drew all the colors from the Graphic 45 "Times Noveau Collection" Designer Paper, to color the image, to sponge the sentiment, etc. The image, again was so much fun to color my Copic Sketch Markers and I added another little Michael's Self-Adhesive Gold Bead for the door handle of the house.
